What an amazing place on the periphery of Palo Duro Canyon. The building is spotless, it looks like it opened yesterday (we asked and it has been open a couple of years). The Sad Monkey's breakfast burritos are huge and some of the best I have had anywhere. They even have a coffee bar and craft beer on tap! They have some great souvenirs as well as camping supplies. While the food, beverages, and facilities are all fantastic, the true shining stars are the staff. All were young, very friendly, and enthusiastic about the place and their products. I wish this was located closer to us, it would be a regular stop.

Stopped by with the family on a whim during their sandwich happy hour and had a great time. I got the B.E.L.T. And the egg was perfectly fried. Their cold brew coffee is also fantastic, very strong and very delicious. They have a really nice outdoor area to sit and a playground for the kids, too.

What a gift to have decent food, good beer, sundries, and really well designed shirts/logo’d items (FASHION!) in the middle of this nowhere! Really convenient for Palo Duro Canyon - perfect for a post hike bite and beer! Friendly helpful staff and clean atmosphere.

Love the McMonkey muffin! It’s delicious! Comes with sausage, hash brown and egg with their specialty sauce which is slightly spicy. We enjoyed our time browsing the store while waiting for breakfast. The shop has a lot of interesting products - from camping items, snacks,to “monkey” branded products. They also have some games in store for you to play. We enjoyed spending our time here!

Sad Monkey Mercantile is a neat little stop just outside Palo Duro Canyon, and definitely worth pulling over for. It’s got a cool, rustic vibe with unique local goods, souvenirs, snacks, and drinks—way more personality than your typical gift shop. Great spot to grab a cold drink or browse a bit after a day in the canyon. Friendly staff and a fun place to wind down before hitting the road again!

It was a great stop after hiking the canyon. Really interesting mix of top-of-line camping accessories, some toys, groceries, and local souvenirs, including books. Great food and libations, pet friendly. Board games are available for play.

We loved Sad Monkey! It was walking distance from our Air BnB, the sandwiches are excellent and beer exceptional. We were thrilled to see a local kolsch and Lager at the top of the beer list. Games for the kids to play which they loved and the shop is so cute. You can buy alcohol, food, souvenirs, etc. AND they carry the best candles - We Took to the Woods. Can't recommend this local stop enough!

Yummy with a fun atmosphere. Order at the food bar and pick up to bring to your table, fcfs. Food was simple and yummy. Lots of variety of local wines and beers. I had the Just Peachy out of Lubbock which was an excellent sweet cold wine for lunch and went nicely with my BELT in wheat. Dogs were allowed inside—so awesome for hot weather! There’s also outdoor seating and an outdoor off leash dog park. Lots of parking in a dirt lot. Wonderful selection of merchandise also, of local artists and branded items. Longhorn cattle nearby to look at. Totally worthy stop when visiting Palo Duro State Park.
